State game of the week: Prosser gets another crack to get passing game untracked

No. 1 Othello (11-0) at No. 3 Prosser (10-1) in 2A quarterfinals
3 p.m. Saturday at Lampson Stadium, Kennewick

Skinny: Here comes the much-anticipated rematch from the Week 3 showdown (host Othello won, 30-14) that essentially gave the Huskies the inside track to the Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) title, ending Prosser’s two-year reign as champion. Yet, it was really two plays that swung that game in favor of Othello – a blocked field goal that the Huskies returned to their own 1-yard-line, and a late-game goal-line stands that Othello also later turned into a touchdown. The playoff game is in Prosser’s backyard – and more importantly on artificial turf that the Mustangs feel will aid their speed advantage, especially in the pass game behind quarterback Ryan Fassler (210-317, 2,536 yards, 33 TDs), who has really been finding receiver Sterling Clark (61 catches, 870 yards, 16 TDs) a lot lately. Never underestimate the power of a good defense, which Othello boasts with a lot of seniors – led by cornerback Juston Lind, the league’s defensive player of the year. The Huskies have plenty of firepower on offense, too, behind quarterback David Garza (108-191, 1,743 yards, 27 TDs), who looks for the big play downfield. Their defense is giving up 5.8 points per game – No. 3 in the state behind Morton-White Pass (4.0 ppg) and Bellevue (5.4 ppg). And in their past six games, they have surrendered a total of 16 points, including last week’s 42-7 win over Cheney in the first round.

TNT pick: Othello, 35-32.

“Score Czar” computer pick: Othello, 30-8.
