Kai Van Sickle is as deserving of a break as anyone. He ran the ball 51 times Saturday.
And the Cougars needed every one of them in turning away Lakewood, 47-36, at Frank Goddard Stadium in Everett on Saturday night.
Van Sickle rushed for six touchdowns and 322 yards on his 51 carries. His score from 2 yards out with 1 minute, 43 seconds remaining in the game put Capital ahead for good following a second half that featured six lead changes.
The lead changed hands nine times in all. The final change came on Van Sickle’s fifth TD of the game, a 32-yard run to the end zone with 6:47 to go.
The Cougars used a pooch kick on the kickoff, and Capital’s Derek Chase ran it down at the Lakewood 31-yard line for a recovery – setting up Van Sickle’s final score.
