Like many opposing teams have learned all season after playing the Tumwater Thunderbirds, Andrew Brown is dangerous.

How dangerous? Ask the Hockinson Hawks, the T-Birds’ most recent victim of Brown’s talents.

The senior halfback had 142 yards on nine carries and three touchdowns, including his sixth special teams touchdown of the season to cap off the first half, en route to the T-Birds’ 45-7 win over Hockinson in the teams’ Class 2A District IV football crossover playoff game Friday night at Tumwater District Stadium.

The win sends Tumwater (9-1 overall) to the Class 2A state playoffs for the third year in a row and it will host Steilacoom, a 38-15 winner over North Kitsap, at 7 p.m. next Friday in a 2A state first-round playoff game.

All of Brown’s numbers came in the first half as many Tumwater starters did not see second-half action after building a 38-0 halftime lead. Brown had touchdown runs of 13 and 7 yards, as well as an 80-yard punt return for a touchdown with 21 seconds remaining in the first half that gave the T-Birds the 38-0 halftime lead. Quarterback Jayden Croft (6-yard run) and fullback Christian Cummings (17-yard run) had the other first-half rushing touchdowns.

For Brown, his 80-yard touchdown off a punt is his fourth punt return for a touchdown this season.
