Not too many instances will Joey Waters be satisfied with a tie at Bellarmine Prep.
But he was Thursday.
The Lions were handled rather easily Tuesday by Olympia, 3-0, on their homefield – and had an even more daunting task awaiting them two days later in second-ranked and Narrows League 4A leader Gig Harbor.
The Lions matched Gig Harbor shot for shot. The two schools left Memorial Field in a 0-0 tie.
“We contested in the game today,” Waters said. “We didn’t on Tuesday.”
Yet, if there was a golden scoring opportunity that went awry, it was for the Tides (6-0-1, 5-0-1 in league) in the 73rd minute. Allie Bohnett laced a 10-yard shot from the right side that forced Bellarmine Prep goalkeeper Kylie Adams to make a diving save.
“It’s still a zero in the ‘L’ column,” Tides coach Dani States said. “I am very proud of where we are after the first round (of league play).”
Now 5-2-2, 3-1-2 in league, Bellarmine Prep still sits in third place in the Narrows League.
