Sumner's Kaylie Rozell is one of the area's top goal scorers - and South Sound players to watch in 2012.

Feature link on South Kitsap’s Becca Schoales and Miranda Caballero.

Top team: Gig Harbor. Yes, you read that correctly – and competing in the area’s best league with 4A runner-up Bellarmine Prep, the Tides return 12 players with starting experience on a squad that reached the state semifinals in 2011.

Projected league champions: SPSL North – Tahoma; SPSL South – Beamer; Narrows 4A – Gig Harbor; SPSL 3A – Bonney Lake; Narrows 3A – Timberline; SPSL 2A – Sumner; 2A Evergreen Conference – W.F. West; Nisqually League – Seattle Christian.

Best player: With South Kitsap’s Becca Schoales (knee) sidelined, Tumwater midfielder Abbey Bergquist gets the nod. She missed last season because of a summer knee injury, but the Gonzaga commit is rated as a top-150 player nationally for her age group.

Others to watch: MF Abbey Bergquist, sr., Tumwater; DF Andrea Bowman, jr., Bonney Lake; MF Sierra Carrington, jr., Puyallup; F Madi Gale, jr., Fife; F Jenny Hoefel, sr., Beamer; MF Brianna Hooks, sr., Tahoma; F Krista Jones, jr., Timberline; DF Katie Mayer, sr., Charles Wright; F Danielle Nurmi, sr., Bellarmine Prep; F Jennifer Oak, so., Kentwood; F Kaylie Rozell, sr., Sumner; GK Sarah Shimer, sr., Federal Way; MF Celia Vaughn, jr., Gig Harbor; F Meghan Ward, sr., W.F. West.

    Todd:

You name beamer as the top SPSL South team — are you aware tht Beamer has already lost 2-1 to Puyallup and 3-0 to Curtis? Watch out for Curtis – they have a great GK, some senior leadership and a number of talented freshmen.

Mo Megson will not be playing for Gig Harbor for personal reasons. Allie Bohnett is a girl to watch for the Tides, as is Elly Aronson, a freshman forward.

The Gateway guru has spoken!! Thanks.
