Another week, another strong showing by the Kentwood High defense.

The Conquerors forced four turnovers, and sacked Jefferson seven times in a 45-6 SPSL North victory at French Field in Kent.

The game was never in doubt after Conquerors took a 17-0 first quarter lead against the Raiders.

The Conquerors have been hot to start the season. So far their team has totaled 76 points while holding opponents to single digits twice for a combined 13 points allowed.

“We’re just being opportunistic out there,” Conquerors coach Rex Norris said. “Playing fast and getting key turnovers on their side really helped keep the ball out of their hands.”

Kentwood forced fumbles on the first two drives by the Raiders. Both turnovers led to scoring drives – starting with Dan Manio throwing a touchdown to Gradey Terrance, his first of four in the game.

“We’ve been able to throw and put (Manio) in high percentage situations,” Norris said. “So far, he’s done a nice job.”
