North Thurston shuts out Wilson, stays undefeated in Narrows 3A

It has been 20 years since North Thurston last started a football season 5-0.

Head coach Rocky Patchin was in his first season with the Rams, guiding a team that featured Mike Sellers to a league title.

There may not be any future NFL All-Pro players on this year’s roster, but that hasn’t stopped North Thurston from getting off to as hot a start as the 1992 squad.

Mo Manning rushed for three touchdowns, Ryan Mets threw for another score and North Thurston remained undefeated with a 34-0 drubbing of visiting Wilson in Narrows League 3A play Saturday at South

Lexing will play basketball in the Pacific-12 Conference, chooses Colorado

Tre’Shaun Lexing, the talented wing from Lincoln High School, gave an oral commitment to play for the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday afternoon.

The 6-foot-6, 195-pounder chose Colorado over Washington State and Arizona State. He was on his official visit when he informed Buffaloes coach Tad Boyle of his pledge – becoming the school’s third commitment of the 2012 recruiting class.

Lexing also becomes the Abes’ first full-ride NCAA Division I basketball commitment since Justin Holt in 2002.

“We were trying to get him to be more cautious about this. I said, ‘Don’t commit until you know in your heart it

Winless no more, Emerald Ridge, Gig Harbor grab victories to end September

Their day finally arrived Friday night.

Through the first four weeks, you could say Emerald Ridge of the SPSL South and Gig Harbor of the Narrows League had been tough-luck losers – and sitting at 0-4.

Not anymore. The Jaguars upset Bethel, 52-35, at Sparks Stadium while Gig Harbor defeated Mount Tahoma, 49-7, in Tacoma to get new coach Aaron Chantler his first career victory.

In Puyallup, the Jaguars scored two defensive touchdowns, including one in the fourth quarter that sealed up the win.

After a botched snap on an Emerald Ridge punt, Bethel took over trailing 45-35 with 31/2

Late drive in regulation, TD in second OT lift No. 10 Charles Wright to big win

Charles Wright Academy wanted desperately to make a statement with a victory against Cedar Park Christian on Friday night in a battle of Class 1A top-10 teams.

Even when trailing by six points, facing with third and seemingly forever play from the Tarriers’ 37-yard line, and with just 35 seconds remaining in the game – that desperation never faded.

“We knew how big this game was,” Charles Wright quarterback Fritz Jacobson said. “Nobody was going to wrestle it away from us.”

Jacobson completed three passes for 63 yards those final 35 seconds, including a touchdown pass to Colin

Peninsula’s passing game roars big, routs Bonney Lake, 55-7

If anybody wondered how effective a new spread-based, pass-heavy offensive attack would be at Peninsula High School, the Seahawks have answered those questions after five games.

Quarterback Austin Filkins completed 15-of-20 throws for 239 yards and three first-half scores, and Peninsula hammered the Bonney Lake Panthers, 55-7, on Friday night in a Class 3A South Puget Sound League football game at Roy Anderson Field in Purdy.

Bonney Lake got a 16-yard touchdown pass from Chris Brown to Zach Zaragoza to draw within 14-7 after one quarter, but it was all Peninsula from there.

Leading 21-7, the Panthers and Brown made
