State game of the week: KingCo 4A rivals go at it again

4A No. 6 Bothell at 4A No. 1 Skyline
Friday at Skyline High School, Sammamish

Skinny: It was sort of by accident these KingCo 4A powerhouses (Skyline is in Crown Division; Bothell in Crest Division) are playing each other this week. Originally, the two schools had scheduled a blockbuster doubleheader at Pop Keeney Stadium – Skyline versus Eisenhower, and Bothell playing Wenatchee. But when the Big Nine disbanded into smaller leagues, it killed the plan in April. So, Skyline quarterback Max Browne gets to open against a very familiar disciplined, gap-sound defense. “It really is a challenge to find those big plays,” Spartans coach Mat Taylor said. Skyline has won the last two meetings – 31-21 for the 2010 league title in 2010, and 31-26 in the 4A semifinals in 2009. Earlier in that season, Bothell took down the Spartans for the KingCo crown. If the two teams play for the league championship again, because of this week’s arrangement, that game will be held at Pop Keeney, Taylor said.

TNT pick: Skyline, 41-28.
