Becca Schoales, the all-Narrows League 4A midfielder and consensus top girls soccer player in the state of Washington, will miss her senior season at South Kitsap High School this fall because of a knee injury.

Schoales tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee during a breakaway goal in a match for Crossfire Elite Club National Team (ECNL) U-18 in late June. She had surgery in July to repair the knee.

The injury should not affect her availability to play at the University of Washington in the fall of 2013, said South Kitsap coach Julie Cain.

“She has a full year, and another month or two to recover,” Cain said. “Still … a bummer.”

Schoales, a 2011 U.S. Soccer U-17 women’s national team member, and reigning ESPN HS player of the year from Washington, tallied 41 career goals for the Wolves.

South Kitsap advanced to the Class 4A quarterfinals in 2011, losing to Bellarmine Prep.

Cain said the teenager will remain with the team in a coaching capacity, and will retain her status as team captain.
