When fall sports begin in August, some schools will be in new classifications, some will be in new leagues and one new conference will have been created.

This change is a result of the WIAA’s two-year reclassification cycle — it should really move to a four-year cycle, but we’ll save that topic for another day — which begins in the fall. The WIAA has put together a list of all the leagues in the state that you can find here.

The biggest change is in Eastern Washington, where the Columbia Basin/Big 9 broke into three leagues: Mid-Columbia Conference 4A, Mid-Columbia Conference 3A and six schools remain in what is left of the CBBN.

Notable local changes are:

Locally, Yelm joins Narrows League 4A, while Shelton, Mount Tahoma and North Thurston will be members of Narrows League 3A

Capital drops down to Class 2A and becomes part of the Evergreen Conference

Orting and Eatonville swap sports, with the Cardinals going to SPSL 2A and Cruisers to the Nisqually League, which also welcomes new member Bellevue Christian
