I’m a little late on reporting Lucas Meikle giving an oral commitment to Gonzaga. News broke during my three-day moving odyssey last weekend. And I get no cell signal at my new place — how do you have a dead spot in Fircrest, AT&T — which mostly left me cut off from the world for a few days.
Anyway, here’s more on Meikle:
Lucas Meikle’s breakthrough junior season at Bellarmine Prep provided a springboard to a full-ride scholarship to Gonzaga University.
Meikle, a 6-foot-8 forward, committed to the Bulldogs last week, a few days after visiting the campus and was offered a scholarship.
Meikle averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds for Bellarmine Prep during the 2011-12 season. He helped the Lions reach the semifinals of the Class 4A state tournament where they placed fifth.
Meikle was a second-team selection to The News Tribune’s All-Area team and a first-team all-Narrows League 4A pick.
Meikle is the second South Sound basketball standout this spring to orally commit to big-time college basketball program. Clover Park sophomore guard Ahmaad Rorie pledged Cal in March.
Lincoln’s Tre’Shaun Lexing is considering offers from Washington State, Gonzaga, Santa Clara and Cal Poly. North Carolina State has also shown interest.
