Baseball: Rogers knocks off top-ranked Puyallup in extra innings

It took nine innings, but Rogers handed top-ranked Puyallup its first loss of the season on Wednesday evening, toppling the Vikings 5-4 at Heritage Park.

Rogers coach Brett Jaime had this to say about his team’s performance:

“Last night was a great win for us against a great team,” he said. “We had to play really well to win and we did Heath Dempsey, our starting pitcher has been amazing all year and was great again in that game. He shut down one of the top teams in the state for seven straight innings and gave our offense a shot at coming back. Michael Sexton and Jeff Nelson hammered the ball and a lot of other guys executed small-ball. Our catcher Logan Ice did a great job shutting down the Puyallup running game and being an emotional and vocal leader. Our schedule doesn’t get any easier and in this league there’s no room for relaxing.”
