The News Tribune’s all-classification All-State Girls Basketball Team
Player of the Year
G Heather Corral, Prairie, 6-1, Sr.
Finally healthy at the end of the season – Corral missed the state tournament the previous two years – she showed why she’s regarded as one of the top players in the Northwest. The University of Washington recruit powered Prairie to the Class 3A state championship, leading the top-ranked Falcons over third-ranked Franklin 54-44 and was voted tournament MVP. Corral paced a balanced offense, averaging 13 points per game this season and ravaged opponents with her defense.

You missed big on this one. Chandler Smith 6 foot Point Guard from Brewster totally dominated Kelsy Moos for the second year in a row. Last year when as a freshman she held Moos to 8 points while Brewster defeated Reardan at the regional tournament, this year Reardan beat the Bears 65-57, while Smith scored 35 and held Moos to 2 field goals.
Chandler has already been asked to verbally commit to several PAC12 schools. She averaged 21 ppg this year with 147 assists and nearly 200 rebounds.
You don’t see 6 foot PG’s who can play like this girl.
Thats funny Moos had just been back from having Mono last year when they met in regionals. She played 3 minute stints then went to the bench. I remember Chandler had the sniffles last year at State “B” and Brewster lost as well, while Moos hoisted another Gold Ball & tourney MVP. Moos held Smith to 2 or 3 field goals as well, but went to the bench in the 1st half with foul trouble while Chandler went on a scoring tear. Moos went back to guarding her in the 4th quarter and she never scored again. As Moos stole it from her, blocked her shots and beat her to lose balls to hoist another Gold Ball. Chandler is a fine player and will get many accolades along the way. Not the best scoring night for Miss Moos, but how do you prepare for 4 quarters of basketball when you only play 2 1/2 during the season when you already have a double double and it’s 40 point running clock. My guess is she was bored wanted a close game & then decided it was time to take it over.
