Mount Rainier surged to a 19-8 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Caden Rowland added 11 points for the Rams.
Mount Rainier, which was reclassified as a 4A school two years ago, will make its first appearance at the 4A state tournament since 1977. The Rams qualified for the 3A tourney in 2010.
No. 3 Garfield 63, No. 10 Kentwood 59: The Bulldogs ended the Conquerors quest to reach the state tournament for the third year in a row.
No. 1 Kamiakin 58, Foss 54: The Falcons nearly pulled off what would have been the biggest upset of the regional round, but fell to the Braves at Richland High.
Sean William’s 3-pointer with less than two minutes to play gave the Falcons their first lead of the game, 54-52. Kamiakin tied the score on the next possession and the Braves defense held strong after that.
Kamiakin led 27-15 in the second quarter before Foss rallied.
Dezmyn Trent led the Falcons with 24 points, Marcus Chambers scored 12 and Tevin Richmond had nine.
Kamiakin’s Justin Pedley finished with 22 points and eight rebounds.
Cascade Christian 54, Ridgefield 41: The two-time reigning state champion Cougars will defend their titles in the state tournament at the Yakima SunDome.
Shawn Spencer turned in a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 15 rebounds for Cascade Christian. Jacob Kushan finished with 16 points.
Sam Landerholm led the Spudders with 20 points.
Adna 71, Chief Leschi 45: The Pirates kept the Warriors from making a third straight state-tournament appearance.
Mount Rainier Lutheran 51, Mary M. Knight 42: David Greenwood scored 17 of his game-high 22 points in the second half, leading the Hawks back to the state tournament for the second year in a row.
Mount Rainier Lutheran came alive after halftime, outscoring Mary M. Knight 31-15. Carsten Neumiller scored 12 of his 13 points in the second half.
