Recruiting: Dozier will visit UW

Lots to report for the Wednesday afternoon recruiting update:

Lakes High receive Cedric Dozier will take an official visit to Washington this weekend. Dozier accepted the invite because Washington has switched its recruitment of him to receiver, Lakes football coach Dave Miller said. The Huskies had been recruiting Dozier as a cornerback.

Miller said “a spot opened up” at receiver for Washington.

For months, Dozier was committed to Cal. Then the Bears coaching staff was gutted last week and receivers coach Eric Kiesau moved to Washington to become the offensive coordinator, forcing Dozier to reconsider his options. With the open slot at receiver, the Huskies are no longer recruiting Dozier as a cornerback. Cal and Washington State, which Dozier visited last weekend, offered Dozier as a receiver, the position he prefers to play in college.

Miller said Dozier is doing his best to make sense of the last-minute changes to his recruitment.

“It’s changing by the minute,” Miller said. “His head is spinning.”

Also, WSU coach Mike Leach was at Lakes on Tuesday and offered running back Levonte Littlejohn a spot on the team as a preferred walk-on, Miller said. Littlejohn appeared to be headed to Montana after enjoying his official visit, but the Griz pulled his offer to fill needs at other positions, Miller said.

Lakes’ safety Ma’ne Manaea told me Wednesday he recently picked up offers to Hawaii and Utah State, to go along with offers from Idaho, Montana, Nevada, San Jose State, Wyoming, Montana State and Eastern Washington. Manaea originally committed to Colorado, but pulled back when the Buffaloes asked him to greyshirt.
