For those wishing to let the Franklin Pierce School Board know their opinion on not renewing the contract of Cardinals football coach Howard Lutton, you won’t get to do it face-to-face tonight.

Because of inclement weather the regularly-scheduled monthly meeting, which was originally set for tonight, has been cancelled. The meeting probably won’t be rescheduled, said Willie Painter, public information officer for the district. He said agenda items usually roll over to the next month’s meeting.

Earlier this month, the district notified Lutton, the team’s coach for 24 seasons, that his contract would not be renewed. Lutton said he plans to appeal the decision and will meet with district superintendent Frank Hewins on Friday Jan. 20.

Painter said the district has heard from some in the FP community about its decision.

“There are folks that have emailed the superintendent, principal, athletic director and others,” he said.
