I stopped by Lakes High to do some interviews for an upcoming basketball preview — looks like we’ll begin running our league-by-league previews on Sunday — and chatted with Zach Banner about hoops and to get an early look at the the defending Class 3A state champions. I’ll have more on basketball later, but wanted to post a small update on

Washington visited with Banner on Tuesday. USC will visit on Thursday and Michigan on Friday. Banner said at least a dozen other schools have contacted Lakes football coach Dave Miller for a last-ditch effort to sway his decision. Banner confirmed he’s down to five schools — Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, USC and Washington.

What about the South Sound’s other elite recruit? I talked to Puyallup’s Joshua Garnett last week, a few days before he left for an official visit to Michigan. He said he planned to take official visits to Notre Dame in December and Miami and January, and might try to squeeze in a trip to Oklahoma, too.

Garnett has taken multiple unofficial trips to Stanford and Washington, too.
