Skyline 1 Bellarmine 0
22nd minute: GOAL Skyline. Lianna Simms takes a free kick from about 18 yards out and sails it into the top-far corner. Skyline, 1-0.
Halftime. Better chances to Skyline so far.
Second half has kicked off. Two really good Bellarmine chances missed in first 10 minutes of half. Next 10 minutes more even, but Skyline more defensive-oriented and counter-attacking this half.
Five minutes left. Lone set-piece goal standing up for Spartans.
It’s gone final. Lots of changes for Bellarmine, but nothing got in.
Here’s what Bellarmine coach Joe Waters had to safe after:
In the first half we didn’t play well. We really weren’t ourselves. But in the second half I think we’re more proud of the effort they put in. They did everything they could. They played some great soccer, some great chances. It just wasn’t to be for us this year.
In the second half we brought a lot more energy to the game. We played like we normally play. I think if we had played like that for 80 minutes then we might have seen a different outcome. But we lost to a very good team. I’m proud of our girls. I couldn’t ask any more from them. They were absolutely fantastic. We threw everything at them. We had out goalkeeper sweeping for us. We were going for it. At the end, I thought in the second half we were the only team playing. It was unfortunate we just couldn’t get over that hurdle at that point.
Seattle Prep 3, Liberty 2
Second minute: GOAL Liberty, Kiana Hafferty; Liberty 1-0.
Sixth minute: GOAL Liberty, Kali Youngdahl; Liberty, 2-0.
21st minute: GOAL Seattle Prep, Sarah Schwaegler; Liberty, 2-1.
29th minute: GOAL Seattle Prep. And own-goal off the head of a Liberty defender has pulled the Panthers even, 2-2.
35th minute: GOAL Seattle Prep. Kaylen Huebner scores, assisted by Sarah Coluccio. Seattle Prep, 3-2.
And amazingly, that’s how it ended.
Tahoma 1 Gig Harbor 0
Scoreless at the end of regulation. Tahoma wins on a PK in the second overtime. Sara Massee was called for a penalty in the box, and Kaysha Darcy nailed the kick.
Here’s what Tides coach Dani States had to say afterward:
I’m only losing two seniors, and I had two freshmen who were injured at the end of the regular season, so we’re gaining even more ground. We have a lot to look forward to if the league stays the way it does, hopefully. It’s a battle to come back from a night game like that and turn around and try to play at your best. It’s hard. Both teams, you could tell the first 40 minutes, just to get past the body and the aches and the loss. But they played hard once again. I am overwhelmed with the defense on my team. They are just phenomenal fighters. … That was just an unlucky situation. If Sara wasn’t on her she would have scored, so you’ve got to make a choice: fight for the 50-50 and hope you get through or let her score. I’m proud of what she tried to do to fight for it.
