Auburn Mountainview High senior Skyler White is a finalist for the “Rudy” Awards.

Here’s a description of the awards and White’s accomplishments:

The ‘Rudy’ Awards celebrate outstanding athletes – not because of their statistical performance, but because of their ability to inspire and motivate teammates, classmates and communities. The awards are named for Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger, who was immortalized in the 1993 film Rudy, starring Sean Astin.

Skyler White of Auburn, WA, is among the 50 finalists! A few years ago, Skyler lost his little sister in a drowning accident. For his Eagle Scout project, he decided to honor his sister by building a life jacket loaner board so other families wouldn’t have to experience such a tragic loss. When a young girl in his community was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, Skyler stepped up and offered support to the family. He has a strong code of ethics and values and would rather stand up for what he believes in and stand alone than compromise his standards.

Here are the details on the “Rudy” Awards:

More than 350 football players representing all 50 states were nominated by coaches, parents, teammates, and friends who have a ‘Rudy’ on their team. A total of $25,000 in academic scholarships, provided by the Trusted Sports Foundation, will be awarded to the Rudy Awards grand-prize winner, four runners-up, one fan favorite and six finalists. The winner will be featured in the January 15, 2012, issue of PARADE, alongside the 2012 PARADE All-America High School Football Team.
