THE NEWS TRIBUNE’S WEEK 8 PREP FOOTBALL STATE RANKINGS

CLASS 4A
1. Eastlake (7-0)
2. Bellarmine Prep (7-0)
3. Chiawana (7-0)
4. Skyline (5-2)
5. Ferris (6-1)
6. Olympia (7-0)
7. Federal Way (7-0)
8. Kentlake (7-0)
9. Woodinville (7-0)
10. Lake Stevens (7-0)
Next: Arlington (6-1), Bethel (5-2), Davis (5-2), Eisenhower (6-1), Gonzaga Prep (5-2), Issaquah (5-2), Lewis & Clark (6-1), Mead (6-1), Richland (5-2), Skyview (5-2), Spokane Central Valley (5-2), Union (6-1)

Eastlake is the new top-ranked team in Class 4A after previous-No. 1 Ferris fell 35-14 to Mead, which was a preseason Top 10 team in The News Tribune’s rankings. Mead fell out of the Top 10 after is lost to Central Valley, 41-28, in Week 2. Since then, the Panthers have reeled off five straight wins.

As for Eastlake, the Wolves take on No. 4 Skyline this week. And No. 2 Bellarmine Prep hosts sixth-ranked Olympia.

Federal Way moves up one spot, while Kentlake drops one. The Eagles get a bump because the 26 points they allowed to high-scoring Bethel a couple weeks ago looks awfully good right now. Plus, Federal Way has a stable of speed tailbacks. Few teams will be able to match the Eagles’ speed and quickness in the postseason.

CLASS 3A
1. Bellevue (7-0)
2. Lakes (7-0)
3. O’Dea (7-0)
4. Kamiakin (7-0)
5. Camas (6-1)
6. Meadowdale (7-0)
7. Peninsula (6-1)
8. Oak Harbor (7-0)
9. Kennewick (6-1)
10. Seattle Prep (7-0)
Next: Auburn Mountainview (5-2), Capital (4-3), Eastside Catholic (4-3), Kennedy Catholic (6-1), Mercer Island (5-2), Mount Si (5-2), Mountain View (5-2)

Absolutely no changes in the 3A rankings this week. Thanks for making my life easier, guys.

CLASS 2A
1. Lynden (7-0)
2. Tumwater (5-1)
3. Prosser (6-1)
4. North Thurston (6-1)
5. Othello (5-2)
6. Sequim (7-0)
7. Archbishop Murphy (6-1)
8. W.F. West (6-1)
9. Deer Park (6-1)
10. Lakewood (6-1)
Next: Cheney (6-1), Ellensburg (5-2), Mount Baker (5-2), Port Angeles (6-1), Spokane West Valley (5-2)

The only change this week is Deer Park supplanting Spokane West Valley as the ninth-ranked team. Deer Park defeated 34-21 West Valley last week.

CLASS 1A
1. Cashmere (7-0)
2. Montesano (7-0)
3. Connell (6-1)
4. Royal (6-1)
5. Nooksack Valley (6-1)
6. Chelan (4-3)
7. Meridian (5-2)
8. Cascade Christian (5-2)
9. King’s (6-1)
10. Cle Elum/Roslyn (6-1),
Next: Charles Wright (5-1), Freeman (6-1), Hoquiam (6-1), Life Christian (5-2), River View (5-2), Tenino (6-1), Zillah (6-1)

Two ranked teams lost last week, only one dropped out of the Top 10. Freeman fell from the rankings after losing 28-27 to Colville.

Sixth-ranked Chelan almost upset top-ranked Cashmere, but was nipped 36-35. I’m not penalizing the Goats for losing by one point to the No. 1 team. In fact, I even thought about bumping them higher, but decided against it – for now. I’m baffled that Chelan isn’t ranked in the Associated Press poll. With a 4-3 record, I will guarantee the Goats will continue to be unranked, but they’re clearly one of the 10 best teams in Class 1A.

Cle Elum/Roslyn makes its Top 10 debut after pummeling Granger 56-7.

CLASS 2B
1. Waitsburg-Prescott (7-0)
2. Colfax (6-0)
3. Naselle (7-0)
4. Morton/White Pass (5-1)
5. Napavine (6-1)
Next: Adna (6-1), DeSales (4-2), Lind-Ritzville-Sprague (5-1), Reardan (5-1)

CLASS 1B
1. Lummi (7-0)
2. Almira/Coulee-Hartline (7-0)
3. Neah Bay (5-1)
4. Touchet (7-0)
5. Colton (6-1)
Next: Cusick (4-2), King’s Way Christian (4-1), Liberty Christian (5-2), Lopez (4-0), Odessa/Harrington (4-2), Pomeroy (4-1), Wellpinit (5-1)
