Ron Siegel has been tracking high school sports in Washington for quite a few years. He’s come up with his 2011 Senior All-State Team, plus his list of juniors to watch.

I’ve been working on The News Tribune’s 2011 Preseason All-State team for the last couple weeks. Look for that to be finalized and on the blog in late-August.

Here’s Ron’s list:

  1. Ron,

It is Kieran McDonagh, QB (not Z ieran)

    Thanks

PS. probably a few more Skyview guys that shoiuld be on there: line-Dylan Bratlie (6’5″ 270) and RB Parker Henry (1,290 yds in 2010)

  2. Doug,

When you do your list hopefully you will look closer at the Narrows league kids who are returning as only 1 made the list plus the kicker? Rector is very good and there were other Jrs who were all league and played great who should at least be mentioned. KNow that Kingco, SPSL and Lakes are the spotlight programs but good football in Narrows like Bellarmine, GH and Oly showed last year and must have some kids worhty of the watch list.

    Look forward to your list.

    Thanks

    Ron and Doug –

Curious – how many of these players have actually been seen by the evaluators for this initial list of top State players? Also was wondering why a Punter (Korey Durkee) was named in the Placekicker category? He was recently offered to UW as a Punter and it’s well deserved from what I have seen for Punters. I believe there are a couple placekickers from the state of Washington ranked higher nationally, as placekickers. (See the Chris Sailer rankings and/or Kohls placekicker rankings).

Look forward to seeing your final list.

  4. wastatefootball,

This is not my list, this is Ron’s list and I know he does a good amount of leg-work putting this together, so I feel OK about posting it here. I don’t know how many of these players he’s seen, so I can’t answer for him.

As for Durkee being listed as a first-team placekicker, well, again, it’s not my list. He does kick and punt for Gig Harbor. I’ve seen him do both extraordinarily well and have no problem with him being a first-team kicker, despite the fact that he’ll punt at UW. (Cedric Dozier plays quarterback at Lakes, but would you list him as a preseason all-state slot receiver, a position some colleges want him to play?).

  5. Devonte Haley is an up and coming receiver that may get the chance to start this yeear for Rogers High (Puyallup). He stands 6′ 3.3 and weighs about 202 pounds and will go up and get the ball. One of the only things he needs to work on is his speed, and coming back to the ball.
