Football: Montesano HS, CWU grad shines in CFL

Adam Bighill, a graduate of Montesano High School — halfway between Olympia and the coast — and Central Washington University, is making a name for himself as a linebacker for the B.C. Lions of the Canadian Football League.

Here’s an excerpt from a feature on Bighill in the Vancouver Sun:

The Lions who gathered for training camp in Kamloops this year quickly learned that the Division II tag was a misleading label. From the start, Bighill was a white flash eager for a great collision.

Veteran defenders grew to appreciate the cut of his jib.

“We call him The White Solomon,” explained Lions nickelback Korey Banks. “When he got on special teams, he was a one-man wrecking crew.”

No need to explain the reference: Lions linebacker Solomon Elimimian, the CFL rookie of the year in 2010, also was voted the league’s “hardest hitter.”

I played soccer against Adam in high school. He’s just an overall athlete that works and plays as hard as anyone. It’s great to hear that he’s doing well.
