Football: Lakes appears in national rankings

Rivals.com is churning out its national Top-100 rankings this week — and here I thought doing preseason rankings for one state was difficult.

Lakes comes in at No. 77. After reaching the Class 3A state semifinals with a youthful team last season, coach Dave Miller told Rivals his team has a clear goal for 2011.

“We were really young last year but obviously talented,” coach Dave Miller said. “This year we are experienced and our talented kids all got better. I would say that anything less than a state title is really a disappointment. It may be a failure if we don’t win it.”

Rivals will dribble out the remaining schools over the next two weeks, until the No. 1 team is revealed on Aug. 10.

Skyline came in at No. 89 and is the only other Washington team to appear in the rankings, though I expect Bellevue will make an appearance.
