I spoke with Kennedy Catholic coach Bob Bougette, president of the state football coaches association, Friday afternoon and he confirmed that representatives of the association will meet with the WIAA on May 1 to talk about the possibility of seeding the state playoffs.

Here’s a link to the story.

Bourgette stressed that the meeting is an “informal get-together.” No concrete proposals will be presented and nothing will be decided. He said the coaches want to find out what’s possible and where the WIAA sits on the matter.

A diverse group of coaches and athletic directors is expected to be in attendance. Among the coaches expected to attend are Jim Sharkey of Ferris, Rick Giampietri of Central Valley, Jamie Plenkovich of Ferndale, Dave Miller of Lakes, Jon Eagle of Camas, Randy Affholter of Ellensburg, Sid Otton of Tumwater, Rob Freise of Willapa Valley, Dave Ward of Archbishop Murphy, Curt Kramme of Lynden and Bourgette.

Athletic directors Bill Alexander of Quincy, Casey Gant of Prosser and Rick Stubrud of ATM are also expected to be at the meeting.

I’ll be following this story as it continues.

What do you think about seeding the football state playoffs once teams have secured a state berth?
