Scholar-athlete finalists for the Tacoma-Pierce County chapter of the National Football Foundation & Hall of Fame were announced recently.
Four finalists were selected in the lineman category: Michael Sly of Peninsula, Bryce Plancich of Bellarmine Prep, John Funk of Lakes and Isaac Smith of Curtis. The five finalists in the backs category are Rogers’ Wes Salyer, Graham-Kapowsin’s Erik Nothstein, Clover Park’s Tana Pritchard, Lakes’ Kyle Gallagher and Gig Harbor’s Troy Castle.
The winners will be revealed at the chapter’s banquet at 3:30 p.m. May 1 at the Curtis High School cafeteria. Winners will receive scholarship money to aid the cost to attend college.

Players from Pierce County teams are nominated by their coaches and rated on a variety of categories, such as varsity letters won, participation in student government, grades and Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate courses taken.
