Craig Brooks has been named the boys basketball coach at Gig Harbor High School. Brooks, a 2002 graduate of Peninsula High School, coached the Tides JV team last season.
“I’m familiar with the program,” said Brooks, who teaches math at Gig Harbor. “Kind of feel like I know the ins and outs. There will be a lot of continuity.”
Brooks has eight years of coaching experiencing, starting with three years as a student assistant at Whitworth University in Spokane. From there he spent a season at Northwest Christian in Colbert and won a Class 2B state title, was an assistant at Cascade College in Portland for a year and assisted for two seasons at Peninsula before landing at Gig Harbor.
Brooks said he feels fortunate to have landed the Tides’ coaching position.
“Gig Harbor is a great place to be,” he said. “There’s a lot of support from the community. I think it’s one of the top coaching positions in the state.”
Brooks replaces Tom Adams, who resigned after leading the Tides to the Class 4A state tournament in his second season.
Enumclaw will interview candidates next week for its open boys basketball coaching position, athletic director Kevin Smith wrote in an email.
The Hornets are replacing former coach Ted Carlson, who stepped down after one season.
