The Seahawks (20-8) came in wearing their “Sealth to State” T-shirts during warmups, and are now one game away from reaching the Tacoma Dome after eliminating the Falcons (15-10) in a loser-out game at Auburn High School.
A 7-0 run in 33 seconds turned a competitive affair into a double-digit lead for the high-flying Seahawks, and senior D’Nique Harris-Welch was right in the middle of it.
Harris-Welch scored five of those points – the last being a putback that gave Chief Sealth a 31-18 lead with 3:15 remaining in the first half.
“The Metro League is very good. Chief Sealth is very good,” Foss coach Mike Cocke said. “I thought in the first half, we didn’t do some of the things we did earlier in the year to get to this point. But also credit (them) … they picked up the intensity, and kind of set the tone for the game early on.”
The Falcons scored seven consecutive points early in the third quarter to cut it to 36-28, but Harris-Welch connected on a left-corner 3-pointer to end the spurt.
Keon Lewis led the Seahawks with 21 points. Harris-Welch added 19, all in the first three quarters. Foss was paced by Dezmyn Trent’s 19.
