Here at The News Tribune, we’re tabulating the results of something similar, our All-Sports competition. For more than two decades, we’ve assigned points to schools for their postseason performances in all sports — hence, the title “All-Sports” — in all classifications. Look for the results in the next couple weeks.
Until then, this year’s winners in the Scholastic Cup are:
Class 4A: Mead
Class 3A: Mercer Island
Class 2A: Archbishop Murphy
Class 1A: King’s
Class 2B: Bear Creek
Class 1B: Mount Rainier Lutheran
Here’s how the WIAA awards points:
The WIAA Scholastic Cup recognizes performance in the classroom as well as on the playing surface. Schools that finish at the top of their respective classifications in state athletic competition receive points, as do schools that finish at the top in team academic performance. Sportsmanship is also a factor, with substantial points deducted for ejections from contests.
