Auburn Mountainview athletic director Murray Johnson recalls what sold him on Craig Spence.
“It was the excitement that he brought to the room,” Johnson said. “The sincerity that he discussed his goals for the programs.”
Spence was named the Lions head football coach earlier this week. He comes to Auburn Mountainview with a wealth of football experience. He played under Hall of Fame coach Bill Walsh at Stanford and had coaching stints at a few colleges, including the University of Washington, Boston College and Stanford. He also is a former head coach at Charles Wright Academy.
Johnson said the school interviewed “a quality field of finalists,” but Spence was “a real standout.”
The Lions went 2-7 last season and have not been to the postseason since the school opened in 2005.
