Big track and field weekend

Three massive meets dominate the high school track and field landscape this weekend.

Nearly 90 girls teams will converge at Lake Washington High School for the 34th Annual Lake Washington Invitational.

Those same schools will send their boys teams to the 23rd Annual Shoreline Invitational.

Locally, more than 50 schools will be at the longest continuously running track invite in the state, the 50th Annual Shelton Invite. That’s where I’ll be spending my Saturday afternoon.

5th grader wins Louisiana high school state golf title

A fifth-grader has won the Louisiana Class 3A state golf title. Brooke Dillon shot a 1-under par 143 in the two-day tournament. In the second round, she had an eagle and two birdies, helping Episcopal of Baton Rouge to its third straight team title.

You can read about Dillon here.

This will never happen in Washington. WIAA rules say only kids in grades 9-12 can compete in varsity sports, except in Class 1B, which allows eighth graders to compete.
