The way the SPSL seeds its teams for the boys and girls basketball 4A West Central District tournament has changed. SPSL basketball commission Doug Aubert can explain it best:

Where in past years the North division and the South division simply crossed over to determine WCD seeds, ex. #1 North v #1 South for the 1 and 2 seedings to WCD. This year the 1-3 places in each division will have the opportunity to improve (or drop) WCD seeding places. 1st place in a division could fall to 3rd seed and 3rd place in a division could jump as high as 4th seed.

At first glance, I can see how teams that finish first in either division will be upset that they will no longer be assured of the league’s first or second seed. But I think this set-up will help the league send its best teams on to the district tournament because sometimes one division is stronger than the other.
