Football: First All-Polynesian Bowl at Auburn HS on Saturday

The first All-Polynesian all-star football game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday at Auburn High School. The game will also be webcast at and

The game features the Washingon All-Stars vs. Alaska All-Stars. Tickets are $7 for adults, $4 for students and kids 12-and-under are admitted free of charge.

Basketball: Thursday’s highlights

Thursday’s boy and girls hoops highlights:

Class 2A No. 1 Clover Park held on to beat Mount Tahoma 106-99 in double-overtime. Tana Pritchard led the Warriors with 33 points. Mount Tahoma’s Xavier Bazile finished with 32 and Roderick Woodfin-Wilson had 30.

Third-ranked Lincoln powered past Jefferson, 82-52, getting 17 points from Tre-Shaun Lexing and 16 from Jordan Russell.

Derek Jobe totaled 26 points for Rogers in its 88-54 win at Decatur.

Auburn Mountainview’s J.J. Lacey and Marion Beauchamp each poured in 19 points, leading the Lions to a 75-64 overtime win against Fife. Bryce Miller and Kevin McCrossin tallied 20 points each for the Trojans.

Washington State Football Coaches Association mid-winter football clinic

The Washington State Football Coaches Association will have its mid-winter football clinic and induct four coaches into its hall of fame later this month at the Bellevue Hilton Hotel.

The 2011 induction class includes: Monte Kohler of O’Dea, Bill “Alex” Alexander of Quincy, Scott Grabenhorst of Toutle Lake and Don Clegg of Wilson High School.

Also being honored are Jerry Jones of the Colfax Gazette and Kevin Griffin of the Seattle Seahawks.

Basketball: Tuesday’s highlights

Tuesday’s boys and girls basketball highlights

Tony Wroten scored 30 points and Tucker Haymond made a pair of free throws with 0.6 seconds left that broke a tie and lifted the 4A No. 1 Bulldogs to a 71-69 overtime win at 3A No. 5 Lakes. Andrew Holloway led the Lancers with 20 points and Isaac Winston added 17. Here’s the game story.

Donald Gaddy scored 20 points, leading Bellarmine Prep past No. 10 Union, 65-67.

Puyallup’s Jay Balmer erupted for 27 points, Dom Holub poured in 24 and Erin Barber added 20 in the Vikings’ 88-74 win over Port Angeles.

Iszia Johnson totaled 29 points and Kevin Henderson chipped in 15 for No. 5 Auburn in its 66-56 win against Eisenhower at Wenatchee.

Football: Auburn’s Shelton will play in Offense-Defense Bowl

Auburn lineman Danny Shelton will play in the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl football game on Friday in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Shelton, a three-time TNT All-Area selection, will also announce what college he plans to attend at the game, which will be televised at 1 p.m. on Versus.

Girls basketball: NW All-Stars tournament changes venue to Wilson HS

The Northwest All-Stars girls basketball tournament will take place at Wilson High School — not Pierce College — this week. There are some good girls teams going head-to-head at this tourney.

Football: Lakes lineman named to USA Today All-USA team

Lakes offensive lineman Zach Banner was one of two juniors selected to USA Today’s All-USA First Team. That’s a tremendous honor for any player, especially a junior.

Banner was not the only Washington representative on the team. Skyline receiver and Kasen Williams also was named to the first team.
