Kentwood basketball star Joshua Smith will play at UCLA. The 6-foot-10, 270-pound center on Monday evening gave an oral commitment to the Bruins.
Smith, rated as the No. 4 center in the nation by Scout.com, said UCLA was his frontrunner all along.
“In the end it was something I wanted to do. This was my choice and it’s where I wanted to go,” Smith told Scout.com. “I would say at the end of my junior year. Before that, they were in the front kind of like what the rumors were saying. I gave the other schools a chance just to see. I wanted to look at every aspect of staying home, but after going over every factor, I knew it was UCLA.”
Smith can sign a letter of intent on Wednesday, the first day of the NCAA’s early signing period for most sports, except football.
Smith is a two-time All-Area selection by The News Tribune.
