For teams in KingCo and the Columbia Basin/Big 9, the postseason arrives this week. For others, Week 9 will shake out seedings, provide a last gasp to qualify for the postseason or be an opportunity to take a breather before the preliminary round of the state playoffs in Week 10.

Below, you will find a league-by-league look at the playoff scenarios for South Sound leagues, along with Week 9 crossover contests for KingCo and CBBN and predicted matchups for Week 10, which will reveal what the first round of the Class 4A state playoffs might look like.

We’ve provided enough information so that if you don’t agree with our predictions and want to see how the playoff bracket might look with different league finishes, you should be able to do that fairly easily.

Playoff berths:
Predicted qualifiers: South Kitsap, Olympia, Central Kitsap, Wilson, Gig Harbor
Lowdown: South Kitsap is the No. 1 seed. After that, there’s still plenty to be decided. If Olympia beats Foss, the Bears get the No. 2 seed and the Falcons are eliminated from postseason contention. The formula for Foss is simple: win and the Falcons are in, regardless of what else happens. The winner of the Central Kitsap-Wilson game receives the No. 3 seed. Even if they lose, the Rams can do no worse than the No. 4 seed. Gig Harbor secures a postseason berth with a win over Shelton and a Foss loss.

Playoff berths:
Predicted qualifiers: Auburn, Kentwood, Kentridge, Federal Way
Lowdown: Auburn has locked up the league title and No. 1 seed. If Kentwood, Kentridge and Federal Way all win this week and finish the season tied, a point-differential tie-breaker gives Kentwood the No. 2 seed, Kentridge No. 3 and Federal Way No. 4. However, if Kentlake beats Kentwood and the Chargers and Eagles win this week, the Falcons are in and the Conks are out.

Playoff berths:
Qualifiers: Curtis, Bethel, Rogers, Graham-Kapowsin
Lowdown: The league’s playoff seeds have been determined. In order, it is: Curtis, Bethel, Rogers and Graham-Kapowsin. Even if Spanaway Lake wins this week, it would lose tie-breakers with Graham-Kapowsin and Rogers.

Game 1:
Crest No. 1 Skyline at Crown No. 1 Bothell, winner is KingCo No. 1, loser is KingCo No. 2
For the following two games, here’s how winning teams will be seeded. If Issaquah wins, it is No. 3. If Issy and Inglemoor win, Issy is No. 3 and Inglemoor in No. 4. If Inglemoor wins and Issy loses, Inglemoor is No, 3 and Woodinville is No. 4. If Issy and Inglemoor lose, Eastlake is No. 3 and Woodinville is No. 4.
Game 2: Crest No. 3 Eastlake at Crown No. 2 Inglemoor
Game 3: Crown No. 3 Woodinville at Crest No. 2 Issaquah

Columbia Basin/Big 9
Highest-seeded winning teams will receive top seeds. Cascade teams are seeded ahead of Columbia teams of the same seed. For instance, if Eisenhower and Wenatchee both win, Eisenhower gets the No. 1 seed to the Week 10 CBBN/GSL crossovers.
Game 1: Columbia No. 5 Pasco at Cascade No. 1 Eisenhower
Game 2: Columbia No. 4 Kennewick at Cascade No. 2 Kamiakin
Game 3: Columbia No. 3 Moses Lake at Cascade No. 3 Walla Walla
Game 4: Cascade No. 4 Eastmont at Columbia No. 2 Southridge
Game 5: Cascade No. 5 Richland at Columbia No. 1 Wenatchee

The winners of these games advance to the state playoffs. Here’s the official WIAA state bracket.

The following games are listed in order of how they will be placed on the WIAA state bracket. For instance, if Marysville-Pilchuck wins Game 1 and Auburn wins Game 2, M-P will play at Auburn in the first round of the state playoffs.

Game 1: SPSL South No. 4 Graham-Kapowsin at WesCo North No. 1 Marysville-Pilchuck
Winner is placed on bracket as District 1 No. 2

Game 2: WesCo South No. 3 Kamiak at SPSL North No. 1 Auburn
Winner is placed on bracket as District 3 No. 2

Game 3: WesCo North No. 2 Lake Stevens at SPSL South No. 2 Bethel
Winner is placed on bracket as District 3 No. 4

Game 4: SPSL North No. 4 Federal Way/Narrows No. 5 Gig Harbor at GSHL No. 1 Skyview
Winner is placed on bracket as District 4 No. 1

The next four games are part of the Columbia Basin Big 9/Greater Spokane League crossovers. The winners of these individual games are not slotted into a place on the state bracket. For instance, if CBBN No. 5 Moses Lake beats Eisenhower and is the lowest seeded team to win one of these four games, it will receive the No. 4 seed from District 5/6/8.

Game 5: CBBN No. 5 Walla Walla at CBBN No. 1 Eisenhower
If CBBN No. 1 wins, it receives the No. 1 seed from District 5/6/8

Placement on state bracket depends on outcome of other games in CBBN/GSL crossover

Game 7: GSL No. 3 Central Valley at CBBN No. 2 Wenatchee

Game 8: CBBN No. 3 Kamiakin at GSL No. 2 Gonzaga Prep
