Abdul Gaddy and Joshua Smith, possibly the two best high school basketball players in the state, will not be at the Class 4A state tournament.
Gaddy’s Bellarmine Prep Lions were eliminated, 78-68, by state tournament-newbie Beamer and Smith’s Kentwood Conquerors fell to rival Kentridge, 51-41.
Gaddy, a senior, does have a pair of prestigious all-star games to look forward to in April — the McDonald’s All-American game and a couple weeks later the Nike Hoops Summit in Portland, Ore. After that, it’s on to the University of Washington.
Smith will have another chance to get back to state — he went as a freshman, but missed out last season, too. In the meantime, he’ll likely spend time getting more familiar with any number of the universities and colleges courting him.
Smith told TNT reporter Todd Milles tonight that he has not committed to any school and that he is “wide open.”
