Garrett Blauert had 317 carries this year and he held on to the football in 316 of them till the whistle blew. Even that one fumble is arguable since it was on the quarterback/running back exchange. But none-the-less, the 5-10, 155 pound junior running back from L-W-K certainly carried the load for the Tigercats in more ways than one. He rushed for 1,094 yards in the playoffs alone. He turned in 225 against Columbia, 273 against Odessa, 301 against Cusick, and finally 295 against Wishkah Valley in the State Championship game. He even found time to return a punt for a touchdown somewhere along the line.
Defensively he always had tough assignments. He made 90 tackles from his defensive back position, while intercepting five passes as well. “We always gave him tough assignments,” said L-W-K head coach Jeff Nelson. “We often gave him the wide side of the field and/or he was matched up against the other teams best receiving threat.”
A Southeast League Championship, a State Championship, a perfect record (13-0), and now, the Bsports.org 1B “Player of the Year!” Almost as perfect as his carries to fumble ratio.
