Just received this from

2008 1B All-State Football Team

The following 1B Football All-State Team was voted on by the 1B coaches throughout the entire State, select media members, and the staff at The selection process is done strictly by votes from all eligible voting members. We received votes from 84 percent of all coaches throughout the State for this years team.

1B Player of the Year

Garrett Blauert, Lacrosse-Washtucna-Kahlotus, RB/DB

2008 Statistics

Rushing: 317 carries, 2,814 yards, 8.9 ypc, 33 touchdowns

Receiving: 31 receptions, 714 yards, 11 touchdowns Total Yards: 3,528 Total Touchdowns: 44

Total Tackles: 90

Interceptions: 5

Garrett Blauert had 317 carries this year and he held on to the football in 316 of them till the whistle blew. Even that one fumble is arguable since it was on the quarterback/running back exchange. But none-the-less, the 5-10, 155 pound junior running back from L-W-K certainly carried the load for the Tigercats in more ways than one. He rushed for 1,094 yards in the playoffs alone. He turned in 225 against Columbia, 273 against Odessa, 301 against Cusick, and finally 295 against Wishkah Valley in the State Championship game. He even found time to return a punt for a touchdown somewhere along the line.

Defensively he always had tough assignments. He made 90 tackles from his defensive back position, while intercepting five passes as well. “We always gave him tough assignments,” said L-W-K head coach Jeff Nelson. “We often gave him the wide side of the field and/or he was matched up against the other teams best receiving threat.”

A Southeast League Championship, a State Championship, a perfect record (13-0), and now, the 1B “Player of the Year!” Almost as perfect as his carries to fumble ratio.

1B Offensive Player of the Year

Dustin Tom, Lummi, QB

2008 Statistics

Passing: 293 completions, 403 attempts, 72.8 comp %, 5,268 yds, 64 td’s/11 int’s

Rushing: 82 rushes, 421 yards, 5.1 ypc, 12 td’s

Total Yards: 5,689

Total Touchdowns: 76

Dustin Tom re-wrote the WIAA State Football 1B record books this season. He set a new single season passing yards mark with 5,268 yards. That broke the old mark set by TCP’s Will Hoppes (2007) by 1,442 yards. He also set a new completions record for a single season with 293, also passing will Hoppes (2007) mark of 229 by 64 completions. He completed 46 passes in one game, another new record. He threw 64 touchdown passes, another new record passing former Pateros quarterback Patrick Hunter (1995) and Will Hopes (2008) by 14 as they have passed for 50 in a season. Another single season State record he set was for Total Offense (passing & rushing) in a season. e finished with 5,689 yards, besting (once again) Will Hoppes by over 1,000 yards, who this season had 4,617 which also passed the old record.

1B Defensive Player of the Year

Nick Marsh, Wishkah Valley, LB

2008 Statistics

Total Tackles: 105

Interceptions: 5

Sacks: 3

Forced Fumbles: 3

Defensive Touchdowns: 2

Nick Marsh had a fantastic senior season on both sides of the ball for the Loggers in 2008. But defensively he seemed to stand out even more. His numbers are not enormous due to the lack of playing three and four quarters on defense throughout the season. His athleticism at linebacker was evident against the most formidable opponents. Against L-W-K twice and Lake Quinault (twice), as well as Neah Bay, Marsh turned in some great performances on the defensive side of the ball. He played downhill against the run and could turn and play defensive back with the best of them on the very next play. He led his team to the Gridiron Classic where the game would go to the final seconds before the outcome was certain. The Loggers swept through the PCL South Division as League champs and certainly put their mark on the 2008 1B season.

1B Coach of the Year

Jeff Nelson, Lacrosse-Washtucna-Kahlotus

After going 5-5 just a year ago and losing the Regional NE/SE quarterfinal to Odessa by the 45 point rule, coach Nelson rebounded and turned in a perfect season (13-0) in 2008. His team was tested time and time again by only winning by a 24 point margin overall to Wishkah Valley (twice), Cusick, and Tri-Cities Prep combined. His team passed the test, coach Nelson passed the test.

He earned his 5th State Championship in as many Tacoma Dome title game appearances.
