Athletes of the Week

We usually publish our Athletes of the Week in the paper, but the interviews are trimmed to fit space, so I’ve decided to start including the whole interview for people.

Ben Nelson, Puyallup

Nelson, a senior for the Vikings, fired a smooth 3-under-par 33 at High Cedars Golf Course to lead the Vikings to a win Curtis on last Thursday and a 1-over-par at High Cedars on Tuesday to lead Curtis past Bethel.

Did you have any bogeys in your 33?

I had one.

Stadium soccer game moved

This appeared on the website …

KRIS SHERMAN; The News Tribune

NOTE: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said the game had been moved to Foss High School. It has been moved to Mount Tahoma High School.

Tonight’s Stadium-Foss high school girls’ soccer match will be played at Mount Tahoma High School instead of Stadium due to another problem with the turf in Stadium Bowl.

The match is scheduled at 7:15 p.m.

It was moved to Mount Tahoma after officials discovered what appears to be a misalignment of the seams in

Kentwood 10, Kentridge 0 (halftime)

Not the prettiest of football games I’ve ever seen. Kentwood’s offense has been largely provided by all-everything tailback Demitrius Bronson, who has 135 yards rushing at halftime, thanks to a 75-yard touchdown run. KW also got a 36-yard field goal from Matt Bell.

Kentridge should have had a touchdown as running back Deven Topps lined up at quarterback and fired a 38-yard touchdown pass to quarterback Brandon Turner, who had motioned out of the backfield. However, Turner was flagged for illegal motion and the play was nullified. THe Chargers should still be on the scoreboard, getting great field position

Prep picks: I need to shut up

The reason Chad Johnson, or Ocho Cinco as he call himself, can talk so much trash is that he can back it up on the field. I talked trash in these picks and didn’t even come close backing it up, finishing an embarrassing 6-7, while Eric went 8-5. So no trash talking this week, at least to Eric..

We stayed in house this week for our guest picker, having former sports writer Scott Fontaine do the picking. Ol’ Fontaine, as we call him, is New Orleans boy that is so loyal to the Big Easy that he selected his

Franklin Pierce 21, Auburn 14 Final

The Cardinals weren’t exactly polished, but they found a way to win, largely due to quarterback Erich Armstrong and a stingy FP defense.

Auburn made it close with a late touchdown pass from Carlo Lavoie to Quintin Nunn.

Armstrong rushed for 83 yards on 20 carries, and threw for 77 yards and two touchdowns.

check out for the stories and scores from another big Friday night.

Franklin Pierce 21, Auburn 7 (third quarter)

For awhile it looked as if FP quarterbackk Erich Armstrong was never going to complete another pass, throwing seven straight incompletions, including three that were almost intercepted, but then he ripped four straight, including a 10-yard touchdown toss to Austin Olson,, the second time the duo hooked up in the game.

Auburn has replaced quarterback Marshall Klontz with Carlo Lavoie, but it hasn’t mattered much.
