Decatur 32, Snohomish 26 (halftime)

It’s a clearly a contrast of style as the speedy Gators are trying to run by the huge, and lumbering Panthers. Decatur’s speed has caused problems. They’ve gotten to the basket with ease and have forced several steals. However, Snohomish’s size has resulted in plenty of blocked shots and changed shot attempts.

Decatur point guard Michael Hale has looked solid, despite standing 5-7 and weighing a shade over 130 pounds, he’s been totally unafraid to mix it up with trees inside, scoring 14 points. After a slow start that included missing a wide open layup on the first play

Kentwood 58, Skyview 44

Kentwood (26-0) may have won by 14 points, but the game wasn’t as easy as the score indicated. At one point the Conquerors only led 32-30 with 5:30 in the third quarter. But Kentwood’s guard tandem of Courtney Vandersloot and Lindsey Moore got control of the game. And from that point the Conquerors outscored Skyview 26-14 the rest of the way.

"Our coach told us they were working harder than us," Vandersloot said about her team being ahead only two points in the third quarter. "We came out and we weren’t working as hard as we usually do. So

Pasco 65, Curtis 55 (Final)

Lindsay Bemis has a tough time sleeping at night after games. After the fourth quarter of Wednesday’s disappointing loss, Bemis might not sleep for a couple of days. The Vikings were outscored 24-10 in the final quarter, and everything that could go wrong, basically did. The shots that were falling earlier in the game, started rimming out. Curtis also committed some costly, and uncharacteristic turnovers that they hadn’t done throughout the game.

Pasco’s 6-7 forward Gavin Gilmore made an impact late in the game after missing much of the first half with foul trouble. He scored six points in

Kentwood girls up 10 points at halftime

Courtney Vandersloot and company are proving why they are one of the favorites to win the state title. The Kentwood girls have been in the control of things most of the first half, leading by as many as 14 over a good Skyview team, and taking a 31-21 into the lockerroom at the half.

Vandersloot was sadled with two fouls and sat out the last part of the second half. She had six point in the first half. With Vandersloot out, Lindsey Moore took over the scoring load, finishing with 12 points at the half.

Curtis 34, Pasco 26 (Halftime)

The Vikings have certainly looked at home in the T-Dome, shooting a solid 48.3 percent from the field to start the game. Senior forward David Niehl is all but unstoppable against the undersized the Bulldogs. Niehl has 14 points in the first half. Teammate Erik Evans has nine points, including a sweet reverse layup off an offensive rebound right before halftime.

If there is any negative it was that Curtis was shooting too many 3-pointers early on, but head coach Lindsay Bemis has gotten his players to work the ball inside a little more to Niehl.

Roosevelt 61, Central Kitsap 27

Roosevelt (24-0) remained undefeated on the season with a 61-27 victory against Central Kitsap.

The Roughriders went on a 16-0 run in the second quarter as they took a 28-14 halftime lead.

Washington-bound Mackenzie Argens scored 10 points with future coach June Daugherty in the stands. Her teammate, Julia Koerner also scored 10 points.

Central Kitsap’s (14-13) biggest quarter was a 10-point first quarter. It looked like the Cougars would hang with the Roughriders during the first half until Roosevelt pulled away in the second quarter.

Amanda Evans led the Cougars

Kentridge 63, Edmonds-Woodway 42

Kentridge forward Brandon Turner blocked a shot by Edmonds-Woodway’s Sean Laue, grabbed the ball and sprinted toward the opposite board. Turner, under pressure from two Warriors, dished the ball to teammate Renado Parker under the basket. Parker immediately bounced it back to Turner, who hit a jumper in the lane while the defenders stood motionless.

Just like that late third-quarter play, Turner and Parker led a Chargers offense that always seemed to find ways to slice through the Warriors’ defense in a 63-42 victory in the opening game of the Class 4A state tournament at the Tacoma Dome on

Prairie 70, Garfield 60

The Falcons got 22 points and nine rebounds from Jeff Dorman and were able to hold off Garfield in the game’s final minutes. Despite giving up plenty of inches in height, Prairie post Michael Hamberg added eight points and nine rebounds.

Garfield was led by Aaron Dotson’s 16 points and nine rebounds. However, the Bulldogs couldn’t hit perimeter shots or free throws in the game’s final four minutes. Duntae Jones added 13 points for Garfield.
