Ready to wrestle

Farrington.jpg

Several holiday wrestling tournaments will be held over the weekend as the prep wrestling season gears up. The biggest is the Pacific Coast wrestling championships in Vancouver, Wash, where several of the top wrestlers and teams from Washington and Oregon will face off to see who’s best. Check out this link to see the brackets.

Closer to home, Vashon High will host its annual The Rock tournament, which features several of the top smaller school wrestling programs, including Orting, which has two-time state champion Tony Farrington (pictured above). Vashon, Lakeside, Quincy, Aberdeen,

Gonzaga-bound Gray faces Clover Park

Gray 7.jpg

One of the best players in the state will be in the South Sound on Wednesday, taking on the Clover Park boys basketball team.

Senior Steven Gray, a 6-4, silky shooting guard for Bainbridge who committed to Gonzaga the summer before his junior season , will showcase his skills at 7 p.m. against the Warriors.

The trip also is a homecoming of sorts for Scott Orness, who coached at nearby Franklin Pierce High along with his father, Bruce. Bruce Orness is part of the Bainbridge High boys basketball coaching staff.

Johnson twins headed to EWU; Oly’s Fennerty chooses Tulsa

With the exception of a few injuries, Matt and Zach Johnson have never played football without the other. And it was going to start in college.

Tumwater’s talented twin seniors will be taking their talents to Cheney this fall to play for Eastern Washington University.

"We visited there during the season," Matt Johnson said. "We watched a game and liked the campus. In the in-home visit we really liked the coaches. They had everything we said we wanted."

But the Eagles offered something more than what other schools like Washington State and Oregon State were
