Gov. Inslee is keeping campaign promise to not claim executive privilege on records requests

So far, so good: Gov. Jay Inslee is living up to a campaign promise not to claim “executive privilege” to shield government records from disclosure.

The Freedom Foundation, which sued former governor Chris Gregoire over her use of the claimed privilege to deny some 500 records requests, says it put in requests for a half-dozen sets of documents from Inslee which Gregoire had denied on grounds of executive privilege. The new Democratic governor’s staff provided all of them. Plus ,a foundation spokeswoman said, no new privilege claims have been asserted since Inslee took office in mid-January.

Bill to give state’s minority-contracting agency more teeth passes House on 72-25 vote

The House of Representatives voted late Friday evening to approve a bill that takes aim at those who try to take advantage of the minority-contracts program administered by the troubled state Office of Minority and Women Business Enterprises. House Bill 1674 passed by a vote of 72-25 and goes to the Senate for consideration.

The measure creates an investigative unit inside the OMWBE and imposes sanctions for those who cheat the system – everything from disbarment from lists of contractors eligible to bid on state contracts to penalties of up to 10

State Archives launches online site for ex-Gov. Gregoire’s web pages to live permanently

The Office of the Secretary of State says it has created two permanent web sites to store the web pages of former Washington governor Chris Gregoire’s two terms in office and also her transition or governor-elect site in 2005. Gregoire left office last month after an eight-year run.

The new sites are reachable on the same state Archives Office site that also has web storage for former governor Gary Locke (1997-2005), former governor Mike Lowry (1993-1997) and even Gregoire’s big rival in the 2004 election – “Gov. Elect Dino Rossi.”
