Ben & Jerry’s ice cream supporting Wash. GMO-labeling initiative

Ben & Jerry’s trucks will be scooping ice cream around Washington state this summer in support of Initiative 522, which would require the labeling of genetically modified foods.

Jerry Greenfield, co-founder of the Vermont-based ice cream company, spoke with reporters on a conference call Wednesday morning to discuss Ben & Jerry’s support of the initiative campaign in Washington.

The company is now in the process of eliminating genetically modified organisms, or GMOs,  from all of its products, Greenfield said. He said he expects that process to be completed sometime in 2014.

UPDATE – Wash. AG Ferguson filing amicus briefs in support of ‘marriage equality’ in two cases before the U.S. Supreme Court

Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson is filing amicus briefs with the U.S. Supreme Court this week in two historic same-sex marriage cases that go before the high court for arguments in late March.

“In our state, the Legislature and the voters have spoken on this issue and came down strongly in support of marriage equality. Our involvement in these two cases is consistent with the will of the voters,” Ferguson said in an interview.
