Dems analysis: McKenna chances to win gov race down to 1 in 9

Time is running out pretty quickly on Republican Rob McKenna’s bid for Washington governor, and this evening’s ballot-counting could seal the deal for Democrat Jay Inslee, who leads by 54,334 votes this morning with perhaps 700,000 more to count. In fact, state Democrats have calculated McKenna’s odds of winning at a shrunken 11 percent, or one in nine – according to this one-page memo.

That’s slim to be sure, but better than none. And as Randy Pepple, campaign manager for McKenna said yesterday, Republicans still think they can win and actually sound confident about it. Murray, Cantwell and Dicks join Inslee, Kilmer, Heck for final rallies today in Tacoma and Olympia

Three days before the election Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jay Inslee and congressional candidate Denny Heck are making another swing through South Sound this afternoon, joined by the state’s two U.S. senators in Tacoma near the end of a 26-stop state “Tour for Jobs.”

The Tacoma stop is at 12:15 p.m. at IBEW Local 76’s hall, 3049 South 36th Ave. State Democrats say the focus is on tax credits and training programs that have put veterans to work. Among speakers are Inslee, U.S. Sens. Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray, retiring 6th district Congressman Norm Dicks and 6th district candidate Derek Kilmer. Kilmer is fending off a well-funded challenge from Republican Bill Driscoll.

The next stop is in Olympia at 2:30 at the Thurston County Democrats’ campaign headquarters, 423 W. Fourth Ave.

PDC staff recommends dismissal of Inslee complaint vs. McKenna

Staffers at the state Public Disclosure Commission are recommending dismissal of a campaign finance complaint brought against Republican Rob McKenna’s gubernatorial campaign by his Democratic rival, Jay Inslee.  The full report, which did find errors by the McKenna campaign, is here.

The PDC staff’s recommendation to drop the case is the same conclusion it reached last week about a complaint McKenna’s team filed against Inslee’s campaign.

The commission on Monday then rejected the McKenna complaints against Inslee. The recommendation on the complaint against McKenna now goes to the five-member citizen commission on Thursday, Oct. 25.
