Ron Paul supporters cheer speaker Matt Dubin

Matt Dubin told the Washington GOP convention that Ron Paul was still in the race. Many Paul supporters were in the crowd.

“Despite what you’ve seen and heard in the media,” Paul is still running for president, said Dubin, an organizer for the Paul campaign.

“Take a look around, see the Ron Paul delegates in your midst,” Dubin said. “Embrace them.”

Dubin’s speech was peppered with cheers and chants as Paul supporters waved signs.

“Being a Republican stands for something,” he said, citing limited government, strong defense and “respecting the second amendment.”

Ron Paul supporters look past convention fight

Ron Paul supporters trained Thursday for a fight at the state Republican convention today and Saturday to gain as many delegates as possible to the national convention.

But they also looked to the future. Many in the crowd were running to be precinct committee officers, the neighborhood representatives who have a say in how the party runs.

“We are the new activist branch of the Republican Party,” organizer Matt Dubin told the crowd, “and soon, very soon, all GOP candidates will be forced to seek our support if they want any chance of success.”

A visit from Ron Paul revved up the Texas congressman’s supporters at today’s 25th Legislative District caucus site, but enthusiasts for all the Republican candidates turned out, almost more than the Puyallup Elks Lodge building could handle.

GOP district leader Don Houghton estimated more than 2,000 people showed up to the district’s precinct caucuses, at one of 10 sites in Pierce County and many more around the state where Republicans gathered to start the process of making Washington’s choice for President Barack Obama’s opponent.

Houghton said it far exceeded his expectations and the 2008 gathering of 430 people.

The crowd heard

Last-minute Santorum, Paul, Romney rallies expected

State Republican Party Chairman Kirby Wilbur says presidential candidates Rick Santorum and Ron Paul are coming back to Washington this week for one last push before Saturday’s GOP caucuses.

And Mitt Romney, who will be in Bellevue Thursday for a long-planned fundraiser, is committed to having a public event at a time to be announced, Wilbur said.

Santorum plans two rallies Thursday in eastern Washington, while Paul comes to Seattle Friday, Wilbur said. There were no details yet on times and places.

The March visits follow February appearances by Santorum, Paul and Newt Gingrich and point out the potential importance of Washington’s caucuses,

Ron Paul endorses Clint Didier for U.S. Senate

What is as interesting as this endorsement is the path it took to get to us.

The original story was posted by Josh Feit at Publicola. But I didn’t notice it there before the kind folks at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee sent it along.

The DSCC provides as much publicity to Republican Clint Didier as it does for incumbent Democrat Patty Murray. That is in keeping with the saying, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. In other words, if Didier can weaken Dino Rossi on the Republican side of the U.S. Senate primary, the DSCC is
