So tweeteth the pontiff: Pope Francis sends out first tweet
Who needs white smoke when you have Twitter?
Less than 30 minutes after being named world leader of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis tweeted out his first message to more than 1.75 million Twitter followers.
“HABEMUS PAPAM FRANCISCUM,” the tweet in all-caps reads. (In English, that translates to someone shouting: “We have Pope Francis.”)
But despite the quick social media strike from the new pontiff, it doesn’t appear the former Argentinian Cardinal known as Jorge Mario Bergoglio has entirely figured out this Twitter thing just yet.
