Gov. Chris Gregoire has chosen Patricia Lantz to fill a vacancy on state parks and recreation commission.
She replaces Joan Thomas of Seattle. The appointment requires Senate confirmation but Lantz can serve pending confirmation.
Lantz represented the 26th Legislative District for 12 years, stepping down prior to the 2008 election. A lawyer, Lantz had been chairwoman of the House Judiciary Committee. She also had been chairwoman of the Heritage Caucus, a group of legislators with special interests in the arts, culture, parks and historic preservation.
She and her husband John live on Raft Island and are avid hikers, cyclists and kayakers.
