Tacoma Dome naming rights: Potential suitor in own back yard?

As we wrote about in today’s newspaper, the City of Tacoma is now soliciting bids for selling the naming rights to the Tacoma Dome.

The effort is part of a strategy to draw new revenues from corporate sponsorships being sought for both the T-Dome and the Greater Tacoma Convention & Trade Center.  Both venues are meant to be self-sufficient enterprises, but each still garners subsidies from the city’s General Fund.

Corporate owner of Tacoma’s immigration detention center buys naming rights to Florida football stadium, sparking protests

The corporate owner of the federal immigration detention center on Tacoma’s Tide Flats recently bought the naming rights to Florida Atlantic University’s new football stadium — a move that has sparked sit-ins and other student protests.

The GEO Group, the second largest private prison contractor on the planet, has paid $6 million for naming rights to FAU’s stadium for the next 12 years, according to various published reports.
