Gig Harbor teacher Karin Ashabraner will challenge Rep. Jan Angel in 26th District

A Gig Harbor middle school teacher will run as Democrat against two-term Republican Rep. Jan Angel.

Karin Ashabraner said today she will make her first run at public office and will run as Democrat.

“We simply need stronger leadership in Olympia,” Ashabraner said in her announcement. “Our persistent high unemployment rates on the Peninsula are unacceptable. Too many of our friends and family are facing tough economic situations that demand bold action. I’m ready to step up and get results.”

Ashabraner is a 40-year peninsula resident who went back to school to get an education degree after working for the City of Gig Harbor. The retired member of the U.S. Army Reserves teaches U.S. History at Goodman Middle School.

“With so much talk about education from K-12 to our colleges and universities, it’s surprising that there are no teachers in the Legislature. I’d be excited to bring real classroom experience to! these policy discussions in Olympia,” said Ashabraner.
