On second thought, fire chiefs withdraw speaking invitation to Eyman

Back on July 28, the executive director for Washington fire chiefs association thought Tim Eyman would be a great draw as a speaker at the group’s annual “No Secrets Symposium,” and extended an invitation for the sponsor of Initiative 1033 to speak to his group, and the state Council of Firefighters.

(The event will be held this year on Oct. 28 at the Murano Hotel in downtown Tacoma).

“We co-host the No Secrets Symposium every year with the Washington State Council of Firefighters,” executive director Mike Brown wrote in that July 28 e-mail. “I would like to invite you to make a presentation during this symposium on Wednesday, October 28, 2009. I would like to discuss the presentation with you, but I am thinking of something like a presentation on I -1033 and future initiatives you see that would be in the best interest of Washington State.”

Alas, something made Brown change his mind and dis-invite Eyman. Today, Eyman found out why.

“We oppose the initiative!” Brown said.

Must be an association rule to never invite a speaker with whom one officially disagrees. Maybe they should change the name of the symposium from “No Secrets” to “Know Nothing.”

Here. Read the e-mail train yourself. As always with e-mails, start at the bottom and work your way back up.

Eyman gets Friday court hearing to contest wording on impact of his I-1033

This comes from David Ammons over at Sam Reed‘s office:

FYI—For those following Initiative 1033, the “other” ballot measure in Washington this fall, Tim Eyman has filed a lawsuit challenging the fiscal impact statement ballot prepared by the governor’s budget office. Eyman is suing the Office of Financial Management to rewrite the impact statement and asking that the Secretary of State be directed not to print the Voters’ Pamphlet with the OFM’s original language. I’m attaching the state’s brief that summarizes the state’s response. The court hearing is at 9 a.m. Friday at the Thurston County Superior Court, no judge

State Republican Party endorses another Eyman measure, Initiative 1033

More of my catching up with my vacation e-mails. This happened Aug. 29 and it’s pretty much your “dog bites man” kinda story. It would be more newsworthy if Luke “The Truth” Esser were NOT thrilled to be on the side of taxpayers.

WSRP Endorses I-1033

On Saturday the Washington State Republican Party, by vote of its State Committee meeting in Wenatchee, endorsed the approval of Initiative 1033 in November. WSRP Chairman Luke Esser issued the following statement:

“We’re thrilled to be on the side of the taxpayers by unanimously endorsing I-1033. The Republican Party has always been a fierce

School unions, parents unite against I-1033

Since K-12 funding is the main way the state spends its money, public schools groups are among those who would be most affected by passage of Tim Eyman‘s latest ballot measure, Initiative 1033.

As school starts, education groups unite to defeat Initiative 1033

As more than 1 million Washington students start public school this month, they face larger class sizes, fewer teachers and less support because of state budget cuts — and Tim Eyman’s Initiative 1033 promises to make things even worse.

Teachers, education support staff, parents and school supporters are united in opposing I-1033, which would slash the state budget by nearly $6 billion in the next five years — on top of $1.5 billion in K-12 education cuts already enacted by the state Legislature.
