Tacoma’s “master mobility plan” wins award

Tacoma Wins VISION 2040 Award for Mobility Master Plan

The City of Tacoma won a 2011 VISION 2040 Award from the Puget Sound Regional Council for its Mobility Master Plan. The award recognizes innovative projects and programs that help ensure a sustainable future as the region grows.

Governor honors Tacoma with “Smart Communities” award for its mixed-use centers

Tacoma’s planning to create high density mixed-use centers across the city — areas targeted to become neighborhood hubs for transit, housing and business — has earned it a “Smart Communities Award” from Gov. Chris Gregoire.

The annual awards, which honor innovative growth management strategies, were given to 11 communities this year.
